Anthony (Tony) J. Turano Sr., “The Goat,” 85, of Dayton Street, Westerly, passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 at his home. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Karen E. (Gavitt) Turano of Westerly, his sister Gilda Colley of Texas, his sister-in-law Dorothy Turano from North Stonington, his children, Tinamarie and Peter Plenninger, Tonya Turano and Rich Hotchkiss, and Anthony Turano Jr., his grandchildren, Michael Turano-Wylie, Joshua Gentile, Andrea Turano, Destiny Wylie, Vincent Terranova, and Brooke Turano, his great-grandchildren, Landon Wylie-Sheldon, Faith Wylie-Patton, Abel Wylie, and Joshua Gentile Jr., his goddaughter, Joan Routhier and his many nieces and nephews. Anthony was pre-deceased by his brothers and sisters, Louis Conto, Santo Turano Jr., John Turano, Rose Korytkowski, Carmella Cortez, Philomena Wrobleski, and Jenny Woodruff.

Mr. Turano was born in Westerly on March 22, 1933, the son of the late Santo and Rose (Iacoi) Turano Sr He grew up playing stick-ball and cards in the North End with the Vocatura boys, leading to his career as a baker for Vocatura’s Bakery for 30 years, traveling between Westerly and Norwich. Those early years he spent with his late brother Saint and his children, Jennifer Fraiser, John Turano and Rosemary Cantley, teaching them to drive and enjoy life with a shot of VO.

He enjoyed his last working years as a local bus monitor for special education students. He loved his garden, his multitude of animals, talking with his hands, busting peoples chops and woodworking. Mr. Turano’s family loved him very much as he had a very kind heart.

His famous words, “WAIT A’WHILE”. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 10:00 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High Street, Westerly. There will be no procession from the funeral home.

Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Burial will be private. Funeral services are under the direction of Rushlow-Iacoi Funeral Home & Crematory, 64 Friendship Street, Westerly.
