Archie Leroy Duerden, 85, peacefully passed away December 5, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. He was born October 26, 1933 in Salt Lake City, UT to Leland Clyde and Hazel Jones Duerden. He married ReNee Irene Offret in the Salt Lake Temple on June 22, 1956.

They moved to Brigham City soon after. They were happily married for almost 56 years. She preceded him in death in 2012.

He was employed as a machinist at Thiokol where he received awards for his contributions in the Space Shuttle program. He was known around the town as the motorcycle, lawn mower, and bicycle repairman. Archie could always be found riding his motorcycle and started his daughters all riding from a very young age.

Although he was blessed with only daughters, Archie was a mentor to many “sons” around town. He has always been very active, on his motorcycles, hunting, and most recently riding bicycles with the “gray beard gang”, sporting a florescent orange vest. Archie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and attended the Brigham City 17th Ward.

He loved his service as a Ward Clerk and Librarian. Dad has always been willing to help anyone at any time. It seemed that he could make or fix anything.

He was an incurable tease, and his girls as well as his caregivers here recipients of his pranks up until the end. The last year he has been living at The Gables of Brigham City Assisted Living & Memory Care where he was a favorite with all of the staff and residents alike. He is survived by his four daughters: Audrey (Kim) Olsen, Roxane (Jeff) Porter, Robin (Cory) Young, Ashley (Mark) Braegger, and his “unofficial un-papered daughter” Julie Scharmann (Kevin) Johnson.

He is also survived by a special nephew, Bob (Kate) Machler, nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and grandson, BJ Olsen. We would like to thank all the caregivers, nurses and professionals at Ali’s Angels, Integrity Home Health & Hospice, and The Gables of Brigham City Assisted Living & Memory Care.

Also, a special thanks to all of our neighborhood friends and members of the Brigham City 17th Ward. A special viewing and celebration of Archie’s life will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City. We invite all to come where we would love to hear stories and memories of dad.

Archie will be laid to rest next to his beloved ReNee in the Brigham City Cemetery in a private ceremony. If you are unable to come please share a story or a memory of dad we would love to read them.
