OBITUARY Arthur Joseph Dolan Sr. July 25, 1922 – July 26, 2018 SANDWICH- Arthur Joseph Dolan, Sr. 96, of Sandwich, formerly of Hanson and Quincy, MA was welcomed into heaven on July 26, 2018. He was the loving husband of Kathleen L. (Hayes) Dolan, father of Arthur J. Dolan Jr. and his wife, Lisa, of Sandwich, Stephen Dolan and his wife, Jane, of Mashpee, and Mary Dolan Falcone and her husband, Gene, of Belmont. His legacy will live on forever through his 5 granddaughters-Norway,Sinead, and Krysta Dolan and Erin and Sophia Falcone.
Arthur is also survived by many nieces and nephews and is predeceased by his parents Mary and John Dolan of Quincy, his siblings Jack, Frank, Anne, Bernice, Edward, and Marie, and his precious infant daughter Bernice Dolan. His is survived by his sister Marjorie Doolin of Rockland. A graduate of Quincy High School, Art proudly served his country as an Air Force veteran of both World War II and the Korean War.
After his military service, he graduated from Boston College and went on to enjoy a successful career in the insurance industry as then as an investigator for the state of MA. Art was happiest at home enjoying time with his devoted wife Kay, his children, and his extended family. He loved to cook big country breakfasts for his frequent guests, and was widely known as the best apple pie baker on the Cape.
Deeply devoted to his faith, Art regularly attended Mass, always with abiding faith, and he volunteered many hours at the Adoration Chapel at Corpus Christi parish. His biggest smiles were reserved for his 5 beautiful granddaughters, and he was fortunate to be with them through the years as they’ve grown into beautiful young women. The White Mountains of New Hampshire served as Dad’s backyard as a young man where he enjoyed camping and hunting with his buddies.
Serving as their camp “chef” prepared Dad for the many thousands of blueberries pancakes and sunny-side eggs he would happily cook over his long life. He also enjoyed the Cape, and that’s where he met his wife, his beloved Kathleen. Their marriage of 58 years has provided the strong foundation that has kept our family resilient through all the joys and sorrows of life.
Art’s best days were when he could make others happy. As kids, he would load as many neighborhood kids as could fit into the VW Van for a trip to Boston for bleacher seats and ice cream at Fenway Park. Dad was the father who played in the water at Menauhant beach and Cranberry Cove, delighting in the happy screams of summer splashes with his signature “dump truck” dives and cannon balls.
Cooking holiday meals were his specialty, and his coveted apple pie was legendary. (Sorry Uncle Eddie, Aunt Marie, and Aunt Marjorie. ) Eternally optimistic, Dad’s glass was always (more than!
) half-full. He loved his family, his country, and God. May he rest in the peace he so richly deserves.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Nickerson-Bourne Funeral Home at 154 Rt. 6A in Sandwich from 4-7pm.
