BARBARA HOFFMAN Barbara Hoffman will be remembered by everyone in her life as a forever mother and wife, a loving grandmother, and loyal friend. If you would have asked Barbara as a young woman what she wanted to do with her life, she would tell you that she wanted to be a mother and have a full family. She did exactly this.

Three sons, seven grandchildren, and even one great-grandchild later, she was excited by each person in their life and those characteristics that made each of them uniquely special. She was the ultimate secret keeper and the person that you would call to share not just the good, but also the bad news. This genuine care allowed her to give more love then one would think possible, until her last day, Monday, December 24, 2018 when she passed peacefully at home and surrounded by family.

It was just moments before her 79th Birthday, but it was her time to be set free and be with a special someone that was waiting for her. In addition to her parents, Charles and Laura, Barbara, who we can refer to here on out as, “Grandma,” was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Hoffman in October of 2004. She had to spend the last 14 years without the love of her life, her “Smootz,” but she made the most of that time with the family she still has here on Earth.

She is survived by her three sons, Stephen Hoffman, Robert (Terri) Hoffman and Eric (Melissa) Hoffman; seven grandchildren, Chelsea, Megan (Tim) Lynn, Tyler, Lindsey, Rachael, Shane and Lucas; one great grandson, Austin Lynn. Holidays, trips, lunch dates, card games… you name it, grandma just wanted to laugh and spend quality time with those most important to her. The past year also brought the gift of a lifetime, her great-grandson Austin.

While there was a limited amount of time she was able to fully embrace her Great-grandma status and watch him crawl, smile, eat, and walk. Thankfully he will have her forever as his angel. Barbara also cherished her role as a sister to Janyce (the late Elmer) Pfister and Nancy (Wayne) Whitfield.

They coined the term “Sisters Rule” as their mantra and kept in constant communication until the end. A great quote to describe this relationship is “Our childhood days have come to an end… but remember dear Sister you’re forever my friend”. Barbara is just that, a FOREVER friend and will be FOREVER missed.

Friends will be received on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM at the Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home, 1701 Route 51, Jefferson Hills, 412-384-0350. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 12 Noon in the funeral home. Barbara’s burial will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery.
