Barbara Burts Pitts, 82, widow of James Madison Pitts Sr. passed away Friday, May 24, 2019 surrounded by her family at Lexington Medical Center. She was born in Laurens County and was a daughter of the late William L. and Connie Craddock Burts. Mrs. Pitts was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton, a volunteer with the Pink Ladies Auxiliary of the Laurens County Memorial Hospital and the former Executive Director of the Clinton Camp Fire Girls organization.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Barbara was a woman of tremendous faith, she had a great love for her family and deep compassion for her community. Knowing her left an indelible mark on everyone that knew her and her loss is profound.

Mrs. Pitts is survived by her daughters, Connie Smith of Columbia, Cathy Martin and husband, David of Laurens, Rosy Singal and husband, Paul of Chester; her sister, Billie Haselden and husband Bill of Aiken; her grandchildren, Charleston Laffin (Travis), Matt Smith (Emily), Katie Forsyth (Garrett), David Austin Martin (Jessica), Rebekah Pitts, Nikhil Singal, Neeraj Singal and great-grandchildren, Chancellor Laffin, Lily Laffin, Charlie Laffin, Grayson Forsyth, Harper Martin, Maverick Martin and Declan Martin. In addition to her husband and parents she is predeceased by her son, James Madison Pitts Jr., her sister, Connie “Toot’’ Watford and grandson, Charles Henderson Smith II. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the Clinton First Baptist Church by Rev.

Dr. Blake Harwell. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Interment will take place at Pinelawn Memory Gardens.
