Obituary for Barbara “Bobbie” Kmecak Our dear Bobbie passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, September 29, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, after a prolonged Alzheimer’s illness. She was born April 11, 1938 in Louisville, the daughter of “Pete” and Mary Clay Allgeier. Bobbie had an endearingly affectionate personality.

She never limited herself and led quite an active life. Upon graduation from Presentation Academy in 1956, she enrolled and worked at the University of Louisville. She interrupted her studies for employment as a Stewardess, first with Ozark Airlines and then with Riddle-a non scheduled airline making charter flights to most European and middle east countries.

Extended stays at each tour group’s location were fascinating and uplifting to her. Bobbie then resumed her education at the University of Louisville where she met, and married, the love of her life, Ron Kmecak. She relocated with Ron, initially to Chicago, IL, and then to Ashland, KY.

Bobbie dearly loved her entire extended family as well as the warm friendships of her many endeavors. She played Bridge and tennis, enjoyed snow skiing , bicycling and dancing, performed with an Ashland theater group, and was an ardent fitness and yoga enthusiast. While raising her beloved sons, she also managed to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Ohio University in 1979, and was employed with the Federal IRS as an Auditor initially, and later as a Taxpayer Service Representative.

Upon retirement she returned to her hometown, Louisville. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Patty Breckel (Louie). Fond memories of Bobbie will be cherished by her loving husband of 56 years, her sons, Andrew Kmecak and Stephen Kmecak (Ellen), MD; grandchildren, Elsie and Joseph Kmecak; her sister, Cheryl Thomas (Jack); her brothers, David and Jimmy Allgeier, and all who knew her.

The family especially thanks the Hosparus “A Team” for their specialized care and kind support during a heartbreaking period of Bobbie’s life. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Cathedral of the Assumption, 433 S. 5th Street with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, “in St. Matthews” is entrusted with arrangements.
