Barbara Eloise Smith, 56, of Asheville, NC, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Mission Hospital. She was born on September 20, 1961 in Buncombe County to the late Ralph Banks and Iris Bass who is still living. Barbara was a homemaker for her household and family and was married to Troy David Smith.

Along with her mother and husband, she is survived by her sons, William Thomas Sheppard (Alicia Maria Turino) of Brentwood, CA and Charles Glenn Sheppard of Weaverville, NC; her brother, Gary Banks of Weaverville; her sisters, Kathy Hance and Doris, both of Swannanoa; and one grandchild, Eloise Aturina Sheppard. A memorial service will be held at 9:00am on Saturday, May 19, 2018 in the Penland Family Funeral Home Chapel. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Smith Family.
