Barbara J. Nyquist, 85, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at her home. A memorial service for Barbara will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave. , Rock Island.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m.; prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.

Barbara was born October 6, 1933 in Winnebago, IL, the daughter of Hersil G. and Edna (Gahm) Kingdon. She married George Nyquist and five children were born to their union. Barb worked for the U.S Government at the Rock Island Arsenal as a compliance auditor.

She retired after over 20 years of service. In her spare time, she enjoyed crafts, sewing, decorating, gardening and reading. Barb also loved animals, especially her dog.

Left to cherish Barb’s memory are her children; Jill Nyquist, Rock Island, Jodi Esbaum, Bennett, Iowa, Dale Nyquist, Michigan and Dwight (Christina) Nyquist, Rock Island; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; special friend, Tom Walsh and many other loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dan and her brother, Kenneth.
