Obituary for Beatrice G. Donofrio Beatrice was born September 19, 1920 to Diego and Julia Fulvio in the Belmont section of the Bronx, NY. She was the oldest of four children. She loved school and loved learning. She was fluent in Italian and was a student of French. As a child and teenager, she often spent summers in Beacon, NY with family and friends.
As much as she loved the Bronx and all it had to offer (including the Yankees), she quickly fell in love with Beacon. In the late 30’s the Fulvio family returned to Beacon, NY and established themselves as members of the community for the rest of their lives. Beatrice married the late Nicholas J. Donofrio on November 4, 1944.
He predeceased her on April 28, 1999. Beatrice is survived by her children, Nicholas M. Donofrio and his wife Anita, Gloria A. Hultz and her husband Lawrence, Elvira A. Capitano. She is also survived by her grandchildren Michael, Nicole, Andrea, Shannon, Erin & Kevin and her great-grandchildren, Edie, Lena, Maxl, Katja, Emmett, Elizabeth & Ryan.
She was pre-deceased by her son, Francis X. Donofrio & son-in-law, Charles J. Capitano. Beatrice worked at the Neighborhood Service Organization in Beacon under the direction of Harold Brilliant. She also worked at Fishkill Health Related Center & Elant in Beacon.
She was a volunteer there after her retirement and recognized several times for her distinguished service and support. She was also a member and leader of many organizations in Beacon and the surrounding area, including St. Rocco’s Ladies Auxiliary, Court Liberatta Catholic Daughters of America (CDA), the Junior CDA in Beacon, Court Queen of Peace CDA, the St. John’s Women’s Club and the Sons of Italy. An avid Yankee fan, she spent her 90th birthday at Yankee Stadium.
