Obituary for Mr. Benjamin S. Whipple Benjamin S. Whipple of Howell, NJ died suddenly in his home on October 1, 2018. Benjamin was born on September 15, 1980 in Philadelphia, PA into the loving Christian household of his parents, Benjamin and Denise Whipple of Willingboro, NJ. Ben accepted Christ at the age of 6 and was active in church throughout his entire childhood serving as a member of the Junior Usher Ministry, member of the Junior Male Chorus and president of the Children and Young Adult Choir.
He developed his gift of teaching as a graduate of the Summer Assembly program, as the first-place winner of the Burlington County Bible Bowl, and as the Jr. Superintendent of Sunday School; all at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Burlington, NJ. Ben matriculated through the Willingboro Township Public School system and graduated from Willingboro High School in 1998. He attended Rowan University and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 2002.
Ben built a career as an auditor for the NJ Department of Labor where he was a dedicated employee for 15 years and was recently selected by his peers as a union representative. In 2006 Ben relocated to start married life and immediately joined Second Baptist Church in Long Branch, NJ. He faithfully served as an anointed Sunday School teacher and an active member in the leadership of Sunday School Ministry.
Ben found joy writing and directing seasonal plays and programs. Ben married the love of his life, Camitha Shivers on October 20, 2007, and in 2010 he rejoiced at the birth of his son, Xavier Benjamin Whipple who continues to cherish his memory. In 2017 the family purchased their first home in Howell, NJ, and expectantly planned their impact on the community.
Ben was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, James and Jacqueline “Peaches” Allen; his paternal grandparents, Parker and Smithy Belle Whipple; paternal uncles, Griffin Whipple and Willie Lee Whipple; and his niece Diamond Williams. Also left to cherish his memory are his parents, Benjamin and Denise Whipple, Willingboro, NJ; sister, Jacqueline Whipple (Friend – Marquaze), Philadelphia, PA; brother, Bernard Whipple (Jazmyn), Mt. Holly, NJ; nephews, Anthony, Nazaire, Phillip; maternal great-aunt, Arlene Ferguson, Baltimore, MD; maternal aunts, Renee’ McNear (Charles), Philadelphia, PA, Allison Henderson, Philadelphia, PA; maternal uncle, James Allen, Jr., Philadelphia, PA; paternal aunts, Parker Pryce, Dublin, GA, Ceola Forman (Willie), St. Marys, GA, Willie Belle Bradley (Charlie), Dublin, GA; paternal uncle, Sammy Lee Whipple (Jane), Mt.
Vernon, IN; parents-in-law Bellamy and Louise Shivers, Neptune, NJ; brother-in-law Theo Shivers (Chelsea), Asbury Park, NJ; and a host of cousins, extended family members, friends and colleagues. Benjamin S. Whipple was a private person, a gentle giant, and only God came before his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, loyal son, respected peer leader, inquisitive family historian, avid Philadelphia Eagles fan, intense gamer, effective evangelist, and Spirit-filled teacher.
