Berna Dean Dawson, 87, of Owensboro, died Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Signature Healthcare at Hillcrest. She was born on September 11, 1930 in Ohio County to the late Leonard and Anna Thomas. Berna Dean was a very active and lifetime member of Hall Street Baptist Church.

While at Hall Street, she enjoyed working & cleaning the nursery, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also worked at General Electric Company and enjoyed crafts, needle work, and puzzles. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thurman Dawson; three brothers, Olvin, Daymon and Benny C. Thomas and a sister, Shirley Bruner.

Survivors include her three daughters, Connie Jean (Tom) Armstrong, Debbie Darlene (Gene) Brown, Denise Carol Bell; four grandchildren, Michelle Hays (Duane Nicholson), Bobby Brown, Michael Murdock (Gabriella Taylor), Mary Beth Murdock; five great-grandchildren, Allie Johnston (Dane), Kailyn Emerson (Austin), Josh Brown, Tesla Brown, Arya Murdock; brother-in-law, Darrell Bruner; sister-in-law, Fay Thomas; David Shaver, who was like a son, and many loving nieces and nephews. Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday and after 9:00 a.m.on Saturday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to American Cancer Society, Attn: RFL of Daviess-Mclean, 3140 Parisa Drive, Paducah, KY 42003.
