At the age of 87 years, Bernard died Thursday, November 15, 2018 in McLaren Bay Region surrounded by his ever loving family. He was born to John and Rose Ella (Weiler) Connelly on January 18, 1931 in Bay City and resided in Hampton Township most of his life. Bernard honorably served our country in the U.S. Air Force (1951-55).

VanRooy Council #2740, 4th degree member of Knights of Columbus J.F.K. Assembly #503, and B.P.O.E. Bay City Lodge #88. On November 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to Rose Marie “Pat” Kaczmarek and they shared their lives together for fifty-four years until her death on March 8, 2013.

Surviving family members include five children, Bernard (Lisa) Connelly, Julie (Gary) Johnson, Timothy (Melissa), Scott (Evelyn), and John (Amy) Connelly; thirteen grandchildren; Lisa Connelly, Lindsey (Sean) Nelson, Lara (Matt) Masters, LCPL Brian Connelly, Andrew Johnson, Sean Connelly, Paige Connelly, Dr. Katelyn Connelly, Ashley (Mohammed) Connelly, Emily Connelly, Kyle Connelly, Ryan Connelly and Benjamin Connelly. One great granddaughter; Amira, his brother, Gary (Rose) Connelly; sister-in-law, Laurie Connelly, brother-in-law Nick (Joanne) Kaczmarek and sister-in-law Luella Kaczmarek. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two brothers and one sister, Ken and John “Jack” (Carol) Connelly, Patricia Goddard, three brothers-in-law: Joseph “Bud” (Hilda), Phillip (Florence) and Anthony “Tony” Kaczmarek.

Funeral Mass for Bernard will be celebrated Monday, November 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Jude Thaddeus Parish (St. John the Ev. Church), 614 Pine at Hudson Streets, Essexville. He will lie in state in the church chapel Monday after 9:00 AM.

Reverend Dale A. Orlik will preside and Rite of Committal will follow at St. Patrick Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Thaddeus Parish or American Kidney Foundation of Michigan. Visiting hours are Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with a K. of C. ceremony at 5:50 PM and the Vigil for Bernard at 6:00 PM at the W. A. Trahan Funeral Chapel.
