Bernard R. “Bernie” Kehoe, 92, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away peacefully Friday at ManorCare, Pottsville, after a long illness. He was born in Reading in 1926 to the late Edgar and Mary Reicheneder Kehoe. Due to his mother’s early death, he was raised in Schuylkill Haven by his uncle and aunt, the late Francis “Elk” and Fernely M. Sotzin Kehoe.

He was also preceded in death by his cousin, Sandra M. Kehoe Riegel, who was raised with him as a sister. Bernie attended the Schuylkill Haven school system and enlisted in the Army, serving in Germany after World War II. A printer by trade, he had a long career with both The Call newspaper and the Reading Eagle newspaper, from which he retired.

He married Imogene “Jean” Matthews Kehoe in 1972 and was married to her until her death in 2011. A race car enthusiast all his life, he had a particular fondness for NASCAR and was a huge fan of both Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. In his earlier days, he raced midget race cars at many local tracks. He was also proceeded in death by his sister, Virginia M. Kehoe Sieck, and niece, Jane Sieck.

Surviving are nephews, Joseph Sieck, Newfoundland, Pa. , and William “Jim” Sieck and his wife, Deborah McKenzie Sieck, Schuylkill Haven; a niece, Maria “Teri” Sterner and her husband, David Sterner, Schuylkill Haven. The family requests memorial donations to ManorCare Activities Fund, 420 Pulaski Drive, Pottsville, PA 17901.

A visitation will be held from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven. A graveside service will follow at St. Ambrose Cemetery, Schuylkill Haven.
