John Harold Smith, 68, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Monday, October 8th, at Broad Mountain Nursing Home, Frackville. Born on the family farm in Auburn, PA on August 1, 1950, he was a son of the late Harold & Wladyslawa Smith. In addition to his parents, John is also preceded in death by his brother, Stanley Smith, brother-in-law, Darrell Dubendorf, nephew, Darren Dubendorf, and brother-in-law, Patrick Bambrick.

He was a graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School and had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. John had been employed as a mechanic at Georgio Mushrooms, Blandon, PA. He was a member of the Robert E. Baker Post #38 American Legion, Schuylkill Haven.

John is survived by two sisters: Gloria Bambrick & her companion, Dane Harbinger of Auburn, & Sandra Dubendorf of Schuylkill Haven, a niece, Catie Hardinger & her husband, Dane, and a great-nephew, Hunter Harbinger, and other nieces & nephews. John loved his dog Louie. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be conducted at Geschwindt-Stabingas Funeral Home, Inc., Schuylkill Haven, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

A viewing will be held 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be privately held at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Family requests donations in John’s name be made to Lebanon VA Medical Center, Attn.
