Deacon Edward E. Freed age 73 was called home to his Lord and Savior on October 6, 2018 with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Lebanon, PA and had lived in Williamstown, NJ and Auburn, PA. He Graduated from Lebanon High School and Diesel Engineering Trade School.

Ed was a Vietnam War Veteran. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps after graduating high school. Ed was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Expert Rifle Badge and Expert Pistol Badge.

Prior to his retirement, Ed worked as a mechanic, he owned his own auto shop, and was an automobile service manager for a chain of dealerships. Ed enjoyed gardening, fishing, sailing, and spending time with his family. He was life-long Eagles Fan.

Deacon Ed served as a permanant deacon at St. Ambrose Parish in Schuylkill Haven, PA. Previously he was assigned to St. Mary’s, Holy Rosary, and Our Lady of the Lakes in New Jersey. Deacon Ed’s ministries included: RCIA, Kairos Prison Ministry, Curcillo, Youth Groups, Prayer Groups, Sick Calls, Pre Cana Programs, Baptismal Classes, Religious Education, Administering Sacraments and Preaching.

Ed is survived by his loving wife Ann Harchuska Freed, his childhood sweetheart; children Joseph E. and wife Ana of Fort Meyers,FL, Susan Freed-Gilvey and husband Matthew of Clinton, NJ, Michele Freed-Madrack and husband Todd of Williamstown, NJ; grandchildren Matthew Freed, Ryan Freed, Logan Freed, Mackenzie Gilvey, Caitlin Gilvey, Nathan Gilvey, Everly Madrack, Shane Madrack; many siblings, in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at St. Ambrose Church, 201 Randel Street, Schuylkill Haven, PA, on Saturday, October 13 from 9-10:30am, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Internment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at the convenience of his family.
