Bernice’s Obituary Colonial Funeral Home 2170 Highway 88 Brick, New Jersey 08724 Bernice C. Thergesen, age 73, of Point Pleasant, NJ passed away peacefully with her family by her side on January 31, 2019. She was born in Fort Wayne, IN and grew up in Caldwell, NJ. Bernice attended Morris Hills High School where she was elected Homecoming Queen in 1963.

Shortly after high school she moved to Oak Ridge, NJ and started a family. After meeting her husband, they moved to Point Pleasant, NJ where they lived for 24 years before retiring to Shallotte, NC. Bernice worked at State Farm Insurance for a short period of time before choosing to stay home and care for her children.

She loved bowling and organized Tuesday’s Kids bowling league in Point Pleasant at the old 88 Lanes, which she also coached; she served as treasurer for multiple bowling leagues at 88 lanes and the Brunswick County Bowling Center in Shallotte, NC. Bernice loved spending time with her family and bringing them to Beacon Beach and really enjoyed the Christmas season. While in Shallotte, Bernice enjoyed playing golf at the Briarwood Golf Course, where she lived, and going to car shows and car club meetings with her husband and his 1963 Studebaker Hawk.

Bernice is pre-deceased by her husband, Albert E. Thergesen. Surviving Bernice are her daughter, Linda Gorski and her husband Harry; two sons, Robert Koch and his wife Karissa, David Thergesen and his wife Vanessa; three step children, Alison Mitchell and her husband John, Sam Thergesen and, Stephen Thergesen; also surviving Bernice are nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A memorial gathering will be held for Bernice from 4 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Hwy 88 Brick, NJ 08724.
