Bernice’s Obituary Bernice Elaine Young was the second of five children born in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Camille Mapp and Hildre Lee Robert, Sr. on December 28, 1930. Her siblings, Hildre Jr., Jeanette, Gloria and Samuel formed a special bond through out their childhood with Bernice as their babysitter, caregiver and Boss! By the time Bernice was twelve she was managing the house while her parents worked to provide for the family.

This began her life long love for cooking, baking and crafting. She attended James R. Dalittle Jr. Elementary School, Wendell Phillips High School which eventually led to forty-four years career with the United States Federal Government. Bernice accepted Christ at a very young age in the family church, Roberts Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the spiritual guidance of the late Bishop William Roberts, the late Bishop Isaiah Roberts, the current Pastor Wardlow, Jr., over seventy years plus years of Roberts Temple where she served in many capacities, the Usher Board, the Kitchen Staff, the Gospel Pearls Singing Group and Chairperson of the Church Board.

“From the barstool to the Church pew! ”. She was married to Lloyd Tucker that ended in divorce, later Bernice married Lee Whiting Young they both preceded her in death.

Her joy in life were her children, Thomas Lavel Roberts and Lorna Jean Holliday- McGee were her reason for living. She worked many odd jobs over her life time, Spiegel’s Catalog, Jois Tuck Away Lounge, United State Postal Service and the Social Security Administration Great Lakes Program Service Center in Chicago, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Hildre Jr., her son, a grandchild Anthony Roberts, a great grandson, Derrick O’dell Price.

She leaves to mourn her passing her devoted daughter, Lorna Jean Holliday (Boaz) McGee, three siblings; Jeanette Fairley, Gloria Johnson (Barbara), Samuel (Rosa) Roberts, five grandchildren; Brian Roberts, Shawnice Jones, Shirece Roberts, Summer Holliday and Summi Holliday, five great-grandchildren; two great-great grands, nieces, nephews, cousin and other relations and friends.
