Bernice Sophia Sporrer, 88 of Carroll and formerly of Dedham, died Saturday, November 24, 2018 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll surrounded by her family. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at St. John Paul II Parish – Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr.

Kevin Richter. Music will be by Dr. Franklyn Busby, Pastoral Musician and the Holy Spirit Resurrection Choir. Mass server will be Tyler Auen.

Lectors for the funeral mass will be: George Grossman and Frank Nogel. Gift Bearers will be: Julie Buenzow, Ashley Nogel, Hailey Amro, and Sarah Amro. Casket Bearers will be: Mike Grossman, Joseph Nogel, Jacob Amro, Bob Klocke, Brian Klocke, and Roger Hahn.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Dedham. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 4 p.m. on Monday where there will be a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 6 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Tuesday morning where additional visitation will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for Bernice’s family at www. sharpfuneral.com.

Born on September 22, 1930, on a farm southwest of Roselle, Bernice was the daughter of Jacob and Sophia (Roth) Hahn. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Roselle, Iowa. On May 4, 1954, Bernice married the love of her life, Ray Sporrer at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Roselle.

The couple made their home on a farm west of Dedham for 50 years and moved to Carroll in 2004. Bernice entered the nursing home in October of 2015. Bernice was a homemaker and was well known for her baking, sewing, and crocheting skills.

She assisted her husband with the farming; baling hay, picking corn or working with the cattle. She was a member of Holy Spirit Church, Holy Spirit Ladies Guild and formerly a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Dedham and St. Joseph’s Ladies Guild. She enjoyed playing cards, going to dances, listening to music, visiting with family and friends and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

Bernice loved the challenge of a crossword puzzle and worked diligently to complete them. Bernice is survived by her children: Donna (George) Grossman of Dedham, Cindy Sporrer of Dedham, Cheryl (Frank) Nogel of Ames, and Brenda (Luai) Amro of Clive; her grandchildren: Mike (Kathy) Grossman of Adel, Julie Buenzow of Ankeny, Ashley Nogel of Ann Arbor, MI, Joseph Nogel of Ames, Jacob Amro, Hailey Amro, and Sarah Amro, all of Clive; her great-grandchildren: Ella, Hanna, and Landen Grossman, and Coleman, Abigail, and Meredith Buenzow; her sister, Ruth Klocke of Hayfield, MN; her brother, Louie (Linda) Hahn of Churdan; her sister-in-law, Florence Fledderman of Omaha, NE; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Ray in February of 2018; her parents, Jacob and Sophia Hahn; her siblings: Norbert (Marie) Hahn, Joseph (Josephine) Hahn, Lawrence (Melvina) Hahn, and Raymond Hahn; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Harold Klocke, Clarence Fledderman, Rita (Clayton) Irlbeck and Delores (Bernard) Klocke.
