Betty J. Davis of Muscle Shoals, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2018 at her residence. Betty was 80 years old and born on August 16, 1938 in Colbert County, AL. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Gladys Keenum.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jim Davis, and several cousins. After graduating from Leighton High School in 1956, Betty attended Larimore College. In 1962 she married Jim and traveled to Sierra Vista, Arizona, where Jim was in the Army at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

After the Army, they moved to the Redstone Arsenal where Jim worked with the Civilian Army Post Engineers. In 1964 they moved to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, where Jim worked on Degray Dam and Powerhouse with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In 1972 the Dam was completed and they moved to the district office in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

While in Vicksburg, Betty worked with the State of Mississippi Employment Service. She was also involved with the Miss Mississippi Pageant as a hostess for many years. They remained in Vicksburg for many years after Jim’s retirement from the Corps of Engineers.

In 2010, they moved back to Muscle Shoals to be around family. Betty still has many good friends in Vicksburg and has talked to her good friend Claudia every week for the last eight years. Even though Betty did not have kids of her own, she loved her nieces and nephews and their kids like her own.

Betty would like to thank the nurses at Shoals Home Health, North Alabama Hospice, Dr. Loren McCoy, and special care taker Andrea Ford, for their kindness and help during her long illness. Honoring Betty’s request, there will be no services at this time. A Celebration of Betty’s life will be held at a later date.

Betty’s favorite charity is St. Jude’s and she would be honored if you wish to make a memorial in her name, in lieu of flowers. The address is St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929. Colbert Memorial, Tuscumbia, assisted the family.
