Obituary for Betty J Melton Print With her family by her side, Betty Jean Melton, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 22, 2019. She said she was ready to see Jesus. Shortly thereafter, she was in His presence.

Preceding her in death were her parents: Everett and Polly Harper, and her brother, Richard Harper. Those left to cherish her memory are: her husband, Billy Joe Melton, her son, Steve Melton and her daughter, Brenda Rider, (CJ Rider), her grandchildren, Michelle Toliver, (James Toliver), Adam Melton, and Jon Rider, her great grandchildren, Jaden and Layla Toliver, her brother Bill Harper, and nieces and nephews. She loved her family.

She was faithful to attend every function possible and always had words of encouragement to give them. She not only prayed for them, but with them, in good times and bad, giving God the glory. Betty was a member of Mt.

Pleasant Baptist Church, where she attended and served faithfully. She used her talent of cooking for the Lord. She was known as the Cinnamon Roll lady, making cinnamon rolls from scratch for every event imaginable for the Church and Elk Valley Christian School.

Her ministry extended to the sick, injured, bereaved, and anybody in the community God laid on her heart. Birthdays, holidays, any particular day, she would make a homemade dish to bring a little cheer to someone’s life. She ministered to the Pastor and his family, from their children to their grandchildren, in various ways throughout the years.

After raising her family, Betty pursued a degree in education, earning her B.S. degree from WV State College. She enjoyed her teaching career and retired from East Bank High School. Most of all, she loved the Lord.

She verbalized often, that with God, all things are possible. She put Him first in her life and always prayed for God to make her a blessing. She left a legacy of trusting God and doing His will.

Betty had a unique way about her that made a lasting impression everywhere she went. She was very loved and will be missed by many. Special Thanks to her doctor, Dr. Jade and Tammy, who came to their house, and her caregivers: Teresa, Sherry, Mary and Joy.

Services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Reverend CJ Rider and Pastor Lee Swor officiating. Visitation is from 12-2 prior to the service.
