Betty McCarthy McCall, age 80, of Glen Alpine passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2019 at her home with her loving niece and husband Jay by her side. Betty was born in Burke County on January 14, 1939 to the late Benjamin and Ruth McCarthy. She was proud of her hometown, and served on multiple committees with Glen Alpine for over 30 years.

Betty was a member of Gibbs Chapel of Wesleyan in Morganton, and was proud to let everyone know of her grandfather who was one of the church founders. She not only loved her church, but treasured her church family as well. Betty loved her books, and was an avid reader.

She will be deeply missed by her niece Regina, who was her favorite person to boss around. She is preceded in passing by her husband Guy Hedrick McCall; a brother, Vernon McCarthy Sr. and wife Jean White McCarthy; and a sister, Nina Harris. Left to cherish her memory are her niece, Regina Barker and husband Jay of Morganton; a nephew, Vernon McCarthy Jr. of Morganton; a great-nephew, Lucas McCarthy and wife Regan of Statesville; a great-niece, Amber Rose McCarthy and Fiancé Michael Nelson Jr. of Mooresville; and great-great nieces, Ryver Marie and Ryleigh Jean, who were two special gifts that arrived at Thanksgiving.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Betty’s name can be made to Gibbs Chapel Wesleyan Church at PO Box 603, Glen Alpine, NC 28628-0603. Westmoreland Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
