Obituary for Bettye Joyce Sigler O’Daniel Betty Joyce Sigler O’Daniel, age 85, of Henderson, KY passed away at 12:30 P.M. Friday, August 17, 2018 at her home surrounded by her family under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lucille Sigler, her husband, William “Bill” O’Daniel, and her brother, Raymond Sigler. Bettye was a lifelong resident of Henderson County where her roots ran deep.
She married William “Bill” O’ Daniel in 1951 and they happily raised 4 children. They were a very close-knit family, traveling to various places across the U.S. on vacations. In 1962 they opened O’Daniels Flower Shop and in later opened Homefolks Hardware & Gifts.
In the years of marriage Bill and Bettye’s life emulated each other’s as they worked side by side in their common goal to successfully own and operate their family business. They were pillars of the downtown community for several decades. Their children and grandchildren worked alongside other family members in the business that operated for many years.
Bettye was a member of Zion Baptist Church for over 70 years. She recently attended Corydon Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include: 4 Children: Rick O’Daniel and his wife Helen, Jana O’Daniel Phelps, Gialene O’Daniel O’Nan and her husband Steve, Brent O’Daniel and his wife Kim 14 Grandchildren: Shawna O’Daniel Evans, Jaci Phelps McAllister, Kelsey O’Daniel, Dylan Phelps, Keegan O’Daniel, Ashley O’Daniel Evans, Brencen O’Daniel, Casey O’Daniel, Erin O’Daniel Skaggs, Judson Phelps, Kolby O’Daniel, Darby O’Nan, Teriana O’Nan and Cash O’Nan 18 Great Granchildren Several Special Nieces and Nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Bettye’s Life Celebration from 4:00- 8:00 p.m. Monday and again on Tuesday starting at 9:00 a.m. at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at the funeral home with Reverend Dan Garland officiating. Burial will follow at Fernwood Cemetery in Henderson, KY.
