Newport, NH-Beverly Ann (Curtis) Sartwell, 76, of Newport passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on March 4, 2019 after a brave two year battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. Bev was born on December 6, 1942 in Newport at the Carrie F. Wright Hospital to Ralph E. Curtis and Lorraine P. (Myers) Curtis. She graduated from Towle High School in 1960 and completed the Medical Secretary Program at Pierce College in Concord in 1962.
Bev had an accomplished career in the medical field as a Medical Secretary and Medical Transcriptionist and her many positions included service at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, Newport Hospital-Newport, Newport Health Center and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center-New London and Lebanon. She also served as a Medical Librarian at Newport Hospital and Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. She taught medical transcription at the Claremont Vocational Technical Center.
In her early working career Bev was a telephone operator in Newport and Concord. Bev grew up in Croydon on her family’s farm with her brother, David Allen Curtis “Curt” and her sister, Deborah Lynn Economou. She attended Croydon’s one room school house through seventh grade.
Bev married Peter Sartwell on June 27, 1964 and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage together. She worked hard all her life with a focus on her family, especially her children. She loved the Patriots and the Red Sox, was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting, dining out, the coast of Maine, country music and gambling.
She is survived by her husband, Peter of Newport; son, Craig Sartwell and his wife, Melanie of Lempster; daughter, Braniff Osborn and her husband, Kalian of Boise, ID. She was a proud and loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 10 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Newport with a reception to follow in Assumption Hall.
