Funeral service for Billy Roy King, age 81, of Decatur, will be Wednesday, March 27, 2019, 2:00 p.m. at Westmeade Baptist Church with Rev. Justin McAlpin officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service at the church.

Interment will follow in Decatur City Cemetery. Mr. King passed away on March 23, 2019. He was born on April 29, 1937, in Decatur, AL to William Mack King and Maggie Woodall King.

He graduated from Decatur High School and attended Florence State Teachers College. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Ruby White, Martha Dell McKee, and Pauline Newman, and one brother, Paul King. He is survived by his loving wife, Juanita “Nita” Prince King; two sons, Brad and Noel; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Bill’s life revolved mostly around family, work, and church. He worked in the insurance business in Decatur for more than 55 years, eventually owning a successful insurance agency. He was a member of Decatur Civitan Club where he served in various leadership roles.

He attended Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church early in life, and was an active member of Westmeade Baptist Church in more recent years. He served as a deacon at both churches. He was a devoted husband and father, and a friend to all.

Pallbearers will be Jackson Badgley, Mark Hopkins, Phil Knight, Andy Prince, Travis Prince, Jerry White, William White, and Nathan Wiseheart. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Breeden, Doug Doggett, Ed Higdon, Jeron Witt, Steve Yarbrough, and past and present deacons of Westmeade Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Hospice of the Valley, P. O. Box 2745, Decatur, AL 35602, or Gideons International, P. O. Box 80, Decatur, AL 35602.
