Obituary for Billy Wayne Wilmeth Memorial services for Mr. Billy Wayne Wilmeth, age 78, of Lindale, Texas are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Lindale with Rev. Rick Ivey officiating. Services are under the direction of Caudle-Rutledge-Daugherty Funeral Home in Lindale.

Billy died Friday, May 25, 2018 in a Tyler hospital. He was born in Thomas, Oklahoma on May 18, 1940 to the late James Howell and Floy Ruth (Corder) Wilmeth. In his early life, Billy was a public school teacher which is where he met the love of his life, Peggy (Gordon) Wilmeth.

They celebrated 50 years of marriage last summer with a trip to Tennessee with their children and grandchildren. Billy was the Registrar at his alma mater, Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK for 16 years before moving his family to Lindale in 1990 where he then served in the same position at Tyler Junior College for 11 years. After a short retirement, he spent the final 8 years of his career serving in various roles at UT Tyler before retiring for good in November 2016.

Billy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lindale. He lived life to the fullest and will be remembered by those who knew him as a kind and gentle man who always had an encouraging word and a smile and a willingness to lend a helping hand. He was happiest when spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.

He had a special bond with each of them and loved creating treasure hunts with hand-written, hidden clues for each of them during the holidays. He enjoyed traveling with Peggy and either of their siblings on sightseeing trips and usually found some time on each trip to hunt for antiques. Billy is preceded in death by his sister, Jimmie Rae Wilmeth.

He is survived by his wife Peggy Wilmeth of Lindale, Texas; daughter & son-in-law Kristen & Jared Pierce of Lindale, Texas; son & daughter-in-law Chad & Mandy Wilmeth of Denton, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Cooper Wilmeth, Hayden Dugan, Isabella Pierce and Jameson Pierce; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joy & Harold Pemberton of Hurst, Texas; Connie & Wayne Muncy of Southlake, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
