Bob McCarn April 05, 1934 – November 04, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Bobby, or as he was more affectionately known as Bob, passed away in Columbus, Texas Sunday, 4 November 2018. He was born 5 April in Pawnee, Bee County, Texas to Hugh Douglas and Dovie Jewell (Billie) Phillips McCarn. He attended Calhoun County Schools, and graduated from Texas A&M in 1956.

He was in the Corps in Company B, Infantry, and was a member of Iota Beta Sigma while at A&M. He earned a B.S. in Industrial Education and was commissioned into the Army, where he served six months active duty and seven and one-half years in the Reserves, reaching the rank of Captain. He received his Master’s degree from Texas A&M at a later date.

He married Barbara (Bobbye) Lee Clark on 21 June 1956, and to this union was born two children, Michael and Llea. Bob and Bobbye were avid doubles tennis players. During Bob’s career, he was involved with labor relations as a manager at Ford Motor Company, Vice President at Standard Register, Vice President at Redman Industries and President and General Manager at Mallard Coach.

He then was co-owner of Texstar International, with his brother Donal McCarn, and a Director of El Paso Company and Zapata. Later, he was involved with Windmill Sales and Consulting and ranching in Calhoun County, and the Bellville Pecan Company. He was known as “The Windmill Man” across the great state of Texas because of his passion for building windmills, delivering them himself, even as far away as Canada.

He served as Republican Chair of Austin County for many years. Bob shared his passion for history as one of the founding members of the Bellville Historical Society. Bob is survived by children Michael (Sheila) McCarn, Sugarland, Llea McCarn, Wimberley, five grandchildren, Ryan (Ashley) Malone, Austin, TX; Nicolas (Emily) Norboge, North Carolina; Robert McCarn, Houston; Taylor Norboge, Wimberley; and Rachel McCarn, Houston and a great grandson, Bertie Lee Malone, Austin; Sister, Lynda (Walter) Breeding, Goliad and his loving friend, Judy Hymel.

He is predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Bobbye Clark McCarn, and his parents, H. D. and Billie Phillips McCarn. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Bellville, First United Methodist Church, Port Lavaca, or to your favorite charity.
