Born in Gaffney, she was the daughter of the late William Talmadge (Sam) Blackwood and Virginia (Jenny) Giles Blackwood. She was a graduate of Gaffney High School and was formerly employed by Dr. Alva S. Pack.

She loved her family and musical festivals and was a member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving are a son, Preston Byars of the home; a brother, Bruce Blackwood of Gaffney; an uncle, Mike Blackwood of Gaffney; cousins, Michael Blackwood and Carol Blackwood, both of Gaffney, Joe Millwood and Don Millwood, both of Cherryville, NC, and several other cousins; special friends, Angie Coleman, Don & Chris Kier, Misty Smith and Brian Robinson, all of Gaffney. Memorial services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or Gibbs Cancer Center, 380 Serpentine Drive, Suite 200, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family will be at their respective homes. An online guest register is available at www.
