Obituary of Bramwell Howell Rome- Bramwell C. Howell, 89, of Broadway, a former resident of Webster St. and widow of Reba, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born in Rome, on September 2, 1929, a son of Frederick and Ruth Nestle Howell. While growing up he lived in Rome and in Boonville, where he attended Boonville Central School, before leaving high school during his senior year, to join the U.S. Army.

From January, 1951 until 1953, Mr. Howell served in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict, in Korea. He was honorably discharged on January 8, 1953, with the rank of PFC, receiving a Combat Infantry Badge and the Korean Service Medal. After serving his country Mr. Bramwell returned to Rome, where he was employed as a stock clerk at H.L. Green 5 & 10 Cent Store.

While working at H.L. Green, Bramwell met the love of his life, Reba Nickerson, whom he married on July 24, 1954, in Rome. Afterwards the couple lived in Rome, West Branch and Ava, before moving to Webster St., Rome. Mrs. Howell passed away on March 4, 1994.

Mr. Howell was a longtime active member of Rome V.F.W. Post 2246, where he enjoyed participating in the post drum and bugle corps, marching in many area parades. He also enjoyed attending V.F.W. dinners and other social occasions. He is survived by one son and daughter in law, James F. (Ruby) Howell, Fredericksburg, VA; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Ken) Murphy, Clay, NY, James F. Howell, Jr., Snowshoe MTN, West VA and Thomas B. Howell, Fredericksburg, VA and four great grandchildren, Tyler and Kayla Murphy, Kyndal Howell and James Howell, III.

His Funeral will be Saturday at 12 Noon at Nunn & Harper Funeral Home, Inc. 418 North George St. Rome, with interment in Boonville Cemetery, where military honors from Charles J. Love Post American Legion Post 406, Harland J. Hennessey Post VFW and Tun Tavern Marine Corps League, all of Boonville will be conferred. Calling hours are Friday 4-7 P.M. and Saturday from 11:00 until the funeral, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to The Rome United Methodist Church, 400 North George St., Rome, NY, or to Rome V.F.W. Post 2246, 315 North Washington St. Rome, NY 13440.
