Obituary of Walter Kinel Port Leyden, – Walter F. Kinel, 91, of Moose River Road, passed away suddenly on Sunday, November 18, 2018. Walt was born on July 18, 1927 in Boonville, a son of Stanley and Susan Zych Kinel. He was raised on the family farm on Walker Road, and graduated from Boonville Central School with the Class of 1945.

Following his education he continued to help his family on their dairy farm. Following his parents retirement in 1970, Walt took over and continued its operation until he retired in 1996. Walter had a passion for farming, and had fond memories of running the farm with his brothers Leo and John.

On May 8, 1982, Walter was united in marriage with Beverly Kellogg Dailey at St. Joseph’s Church, Boonville. Following Walt’s retirement from the farm, the couple moved to their home on the Moose River Road in Port Leyden. Mrs. Kinel passed away on August 15, 2018.

Walter was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Martin’s Church, Port Leyden, and St. Joseph’s Church, Boonville. He enjoyed the outdoors especially the time he spent hunting and fishing. Walter is survived by his nephew and caregiver Thomas Tyska, Canastota, as well as his other nieces and nephews and their families: Raymond (Diane) Tyska, Liverpool, William (Susan) Tyska, Alabama, Peggy (Andrew) Stien, Oregon, Rosalie (Steven) Warner, Oregon, and Marilyn (Bernard) Dolan, Boonville, a niece by marriage Joan Bolich, Port Leyden, and several great-nieces and great-nephews including Michelle McIntyre and Joey Bolich.

He is also survived by Beverly’s children, grandchildren and extended family. Besides his wife Beverly, Walter was predeceased by his siblings and their spouses: Joseph (Ruth) Kinel, Mary Ann (Frank) Tyska, John (Helen) Kinel, Helen (Bruce) Hannan, and Leo Kinel, and nephews: Richard Bolich and Martin Kinel. Walter is also survived by his former neighbor and longtime friends Charles (Annette) Hammond.

Funeral services will begin on Wednesday, November 28, with a 10:00 am prayer service at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at St. Joseph’s Church of Christ Our Hope Parish, Boonville, with Rev. Thomas Ward officiating. Interment will be held in the spring in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Boonville.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Port Leyden Fire Dept. P.O. Box 652, Port Leyden, NY 13433.
