Bruce’s Obituary Bruce A. Sorum—-91, Bowbells, died Saturday, May 18, 2019 in a Mohall nursing home. Bruce Arnold Sorum was born in Portal, ND, on July 17, 1927, a son of Marius and Anna (Renstrom) Sorum. He was raised and educated in the Flaxton area, where he attended school through the eleventh grade and graduated in 1945 from Westhope High School.

He furthered his education by attending the University of North Dakota and Minot State Teachers College. In December of 1951, Bruce enlisted into the United States Navy. Although he never was called to active duty, he was proud of his service as a member of the Naval Reserve.

He was honorably discharged in January of 1959. On March 15, 1952, Bruce was united in marriage to Mavis J. Thompson. They made their home in Westhope until 1953 when they moved to a farm northwest of Bowbells, in North Star Township, Burke County, where they lived until 1975.

Bruce was the owner/operator of Sorum Construction. In 1968, he saw a need for machinery sales in the area and began Sorum Machinery, which sold Steiger, Morris, and Bush Hog machinery. Mavis passed away on February 14, 1996.

Bruce continued to be active on the farm until 2018 when he moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Mohall, ND. Bruce attended the Norwegian Lutheran Church, until its closure, and later the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Bowbells, ND. Bruce is survived by: Sons: Kim (Joanne) Sorum, Bowbells, ND, James Jay (Marlene) Sorum, Fargo, ND; Two grandchildren: Bridget (JR) Ryberg, Heather (Jordan) Braaflat; four great-grandchildren: Abby Ryberg, Violet, Gracie Jo, and Opal Braaflat; special friend Brit Hogoahl, Norway; in-laws: Shirley Sorum, Kenny (Arlene) Peterson, Marilyn (Frank) Umber, Richard (Elizabeth) Thompson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mavis and daughter Charlotte in a motor vehicle accident in February of 1996; grandson Paul; siblings John Sorum, Lillian (Glen) Swenson, Thelma (Orluf) Petersen, Marvin Sorum, and Kathryn (Elmer) Erwin. Visitation: Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 10 am until service time at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bowbells, ND. Funeral Service: Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 11 am at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Bowbells, ND.

Burial: Bowbells Community Cemetery, Bowbells, ND.
