Bruce Everett Peterson,73, passed away on May 12, 2018. Bruce was born in Rockford, Illinois on February 15, 1945, the eldest son to Everett and Irma Peterson. He graduated from East High School in 1963, he attended Devry Institute in Chicago.

Bruce married Cheryl Kunkle Peterson October 12, 1963, in Rockford, Illinois. They raised their three kids there. In 2007 they moved to Toney, Alabama to get away from the snow and cold of the north.

Bruce was a member of Ford’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Harvest, AL. The church community has become family to Bruce and Cheryl. Bruce was grateful for the friendships that were built over the years.

Bruce never wanted anyone to feel sorry for him or do things for him but the church family were always there for him if he needed them. His wheelchair was not a crutch for him, he found a way to work around it and never stopped doing what he wanted to do. His love of woodworking, making birdhouses and being in his workshop fulfilled him.

Before moving to Alabama Bruce worked at Barber-Colman Company in Loves Park, IL for 30 years as an electrical technician. He also worked at RV Evans in Machesney Park, IL fixing pneumatic hand tools for the building industry. Bruce is survived by his wife of 55 years, Cheryl of Toney, Alabama.

Their three children, Brian (Patty) Peterson, Toney, AL , Kelly (Greg) Johnson, Rockton, Illinois, Tricia (Brian) Meyer of Sheboygan Falls, WI, and dog Holly. Grandchildren, Thomas (Mary) Peterson, Stephen (Jackie) Kennedy, Courtney Meyer (Ben Klatt), Nicholas Johnson, Carson Meyer, Caleb Meyer, Erik Johnson. Three great grandchildren, Noah, Arabella, Lochlan Kennedy.

Brother, William (Sue) Peterson, Brother and sister in law, Donald and Judy Mantzke. Predeseased by his parents, and best friend Terry Mitchell. Services will be on Thursday May 17, visitation 10:00-11:00 am, service following at 11:00 am at Ford’s Chapel Methodist Church, 280 Ford Chapel Dr., Harvest, AL 35749.
