Rucker and Fred White on September 4, 1971. Willie T. Rucker gave their son the nickname “ToJo”. He grew up in Madison, Arkansas and ventured out after attending school there.

During ToJo’s life, he traveled from New York to New Orleans, Louisiana, to Memphis, Tennessee and everywhere in between; but in his settling years, he returned to the South, residing in North and South Carolina. That is where all of his expertise showed up at Applebee’s restaurant in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Bruce worked all the way up to counseling the production of keeping up with the daily operation of the restaurant, but he had to stop work to travel for health reasons.

Bruce passed away at Forrest City Medical Center in Forrest City, Arkansas on February 6, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Cliff Rucker, Jr., Albert David Earl Lee and sister: Pearline Hill. Bruce leaves to cherish his memory: his sons—Cordairo “Dee” (Kandace) Brown of Forrest City, Arkansas and Bruce Thompson of Houston, Texas; his daughters—Jazmine “Jazma” Thompson of Houston, Texas, Irieonne “Ari” Thompson of Houston, Texas, and Miracle “Mira” Thompson of Houston, Texas; brothers: Tarzan (Diane) Lee, Roy Rucker and Joey Rucker, all of Madison, Arkansas; Columbus (Geraldine) Rucker of Forrest City, Arkansas; Alquincy Rucker of Denver, Colorado; Clyde White of Detroit, Michigan; sisters: Willie Jean Redmon of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Lela (Theodis) Goodwin of Madison, Arkansas; Erma (Earsell) Wells of Helena-West Helena, Arkansas; Nadine Davis of Nashville, Tennessee and Maxine Rucker (life partner: Charles) of Forrest City, Arkansas.

He was also blessed with a host of aunts, nephews, nieces, and friends who truly loved him. “God is good”, as he would always say, and he lived his life fighting to the end just how everyone knew him as…ToJo Rucker. Friends and relatives are invited to post messages and share memories.
