Burnell Skaggs June 29, 1919 – March 13, 2019 Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Harley Burnell Skaggs, born June 29, 1919 at Paint Rock, Missouri on the Current River to the late Orville Skaggs and Lela (Beavers) Skaggs-Skiles. He departed this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the Brent B. Tinnin Nursing Center in Ellington, Missouri at the age of 99 years, 8 months and 14 days. On March 5, 1938 Burnell was united in marriage to Lorene Lucille Potter in Van Buren, Missouri.

To this loving union five children were born. Lorene preceded him in death on March 16, 2005. Burnell worked as a Truck Driver for Hackworth Lumber Company as and was an avid Car Salesman for Rayfield Morton Company; he was one of the best at his job and loved every minute of it.

On June 26, 1949 Burnell was baptized in Ruble, Missouri. He was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Wayne County Saddle Club, his hobbies included riding horses, trail riding, deer hunting, taking care of his cattle and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Orville and Lela, and his loving wife Lorene of 67 years; Burnell is preceded in death by his step-father, Guy Skiles; one infant son; one grandson, William Hubert George; one granddaughter, Debra Skaggs; three brothers, Burnice Leo Skaggs, Cordell Skaggs and an infant brother; two sisters, Alta Mae and Wanda Lou Kelly; and daughter-in-law, Imogene Skaggs. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Skaggs of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Russell Skaggs of Ellington, Missouri; three daughters, Barbara Ann Smith, husband Carl of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Glenda George, husband Jim of Old Hickory, Tennessee, and Roberta Copeland, husband Robert of Ellington, Missouri; one sister, Verna Collins of Annapolis, Missouri; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Burnell will be greatly missed by a host of relatives and many friends who mourn his passing.
