Flynn, Caitlin M., Tustin, CA Caitlin Mary Flynn, of Tustin, CA, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 16, 2018. Caitlin was born in Albany, N.Y. on May 13, 1982 living most of her life in Guilderland, N.Y. She attended Guilderland HS where she participated in basketball, softball, lacrosse and track.
She graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh earning a B.S. degree in Social Work and Psychology. During college, Caitlin was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority and served as president for two years. Upon graduating she worked for Schenectady ARC and, after six years at ARC, she left her position as Senior Psychology Coordinator for California.
She continued to speak of her years at ARC with deep affection. In addition to ARC, Caitlin had worked part-time for many years at Robinson’s ACE Hardware. There she honed her interest in tools and gadgets.
She was mechanically inclined and able to repair most things. She loved cars and saw to it that hers were always clean and cared for. In California, Caitlin continued in the field of social work until the last few years when she worked as an independent contractor for a solar energy company.
Over the last year she combined this skill with her artistic side to start a small business, “Masterful Metals”, creating pieces of functional art using metal pipes of various shapes and sizes. Caitlin was a special person – quirky and funny, sensitive and caring, with her own take on life. She was a knowledgeable and avid NY Yankees and NY Giants fan and we will sorely miss our conversations on game days when they are playing.
She was passionate about animals. She took exceptional care of all her pets: dogs, hamsters, guinea pigs and mice. Five years ago she became a cat person after discovering three abandoned kittens.
Managing to keep two alive, Mr. Walter (aka Wally) and Pirate became part of her family. Caitlin is survived by her parents, Mitzi and Gerry Flynn of Guilderland, N.Y. and sister, Meghan Flynn of Breckenridge, CO. She also leaves behind many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as numerous dear friends, especially the “Muppets” and sisters of Alpha Epsilon Phi.
Calling hours will be at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 5216 Western Turnpike (just west of Carman Rd. ), Guilderland, Friday, June 29 from 4 – 7 p.m. A Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 30 at Saint Madeleine Sophie Church in Guilderland.
