Calvin Eugene Heitzenrater December 1, 1947 – December 8, 2018 Calvin Eugene Heitzenrater, age 71, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 9, 2018 in Dublin, Georgia from post-operative complications resulting from his open-heart surgery back in October of this year. Calvin was born in Gowanda, New York to Calvin Floyd and Julianna Heitzenrater. When he was only six years old, his family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

He loved the Florida water and especially liked training for the Junior Olympics with his amazing butterfly stroke. On the day of his graduation from Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, Calvin joined the military, serving in the U.S. Navy as a Supply Clerk on the U.S.S. Montrose from 1965 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. Calvin was always an active participant in his children’s activities growing up.

He loved sharing his many fond memories from the times his children played softball, baseball, cheerleading, football and bowling, and always held dear the wonderful memories of his extended family he gained during these times. Calvin’s job brought him opportunities to live in Georgia for several years. During his time in Atlanta, Calvin joined a Briarwood Baptist softball team.

He accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior after attending his first church service at Briarwood. Calvin lived out 2 Timothy 4:7, he “fought the good fight, finished the race, and remained faithful”. His job eventually brought him back home to Florida in September of 1993.

During this time, he met Nancy and the two wed 1 ½ years later on February 18, 1995. Together they enjoyed spending time with family and friends, participating in church activities, walking the mall, shopping, travelling, swimming, watching movies, dining out and golfing. Calvin is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (nee Wybenga Johnson) of Lawrenceville, GA; daughter, Kristine (Adam) Clark; son, David Heitzenrater; stepson, Douglas Johnson; granddaughter, Haley Clark; sister, Barbara (Jack) Maginnis; mother-in-law, Willine Wybenga; brother-in-law, Erwin (Mary) Wybenga; nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Calvin Floyd Heitzenrater, mother, Julianna Dustin, sister, Judith Tripp, brother, Ralph Heitzenrater and niece, Julie Sue Tripp. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 5255 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn, GA 30044. There will be a reception “wake” after Calvin’s celebration of life in the church’s fellowship hall for immediate and extended family members as well as close personal friends.

His cremated remains will be placed in a columbarium at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Veterans Cemetery Road, Canton, GA 30114 at 11:30 am on Monday, December 24, 2018.
