Camilo’s Obituary Camilo Martinez passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 20, 2018 at the age of 66. He was born in Laredo, Texas to his parents Matias Martinez and Maria Cuevas on July 18, 1952. A beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and now our Guardian Angel.
Camilo dedicated his life to his family. In the 6th grade, he gave up the rest of his school years to begin working and providing for his parents. A gift that many adults, much less a child, are willing to give.
It was late one night at a dance hall when he would meet the love of his life, Paz. According to her account, she noticed a man all dressed up in a nice suit. All the other men there were dressed down, not concerned about their appearance.
Paz built up the courage to approach Camilo and the rest was history. On July 31, 1971 this beautiful young couple would join their hearts in the sacrament of marriage at Mother Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Laredo, Texas. From this Holy Matrimony they would bring to life five children, Camilio, Jr., Rodolfo, Victor, Armando, and Araceli.
He expressed every day of his life that one of his greatest joys were his children and grandchildren. They all brought him so much pride and happiness. Many would describe Camilo as fun and loving man.
His grandchildren always feared the nicknames he created for each of them, as no one was safe from his jokes! Although, they understood, that was his way of showing love; so keep on smiling freckles. Oh how he hated them Dallas Cowboys!
He would drive all the family crazy with his hate speech. Camilo was always light on his feet, the sound of oldies music on the stereo always got him moving. He exercised religiously and always kept a clean home.
An ideal evening for Camilo was to take his wife to bingo, where they have many fond memories, or to be watching Andy Griffin, Gunsmoke or any other western movie. The family will never forget what a passion he had for cooking, most notable were his briskets and menudo! All in all Camilo desired to do good and to help everyone he could.
His favorite saying was “sisters don’t fight and brothers don’t fight”. The legacy of his fun spirit, passion for family and zest for life will live through those who love him dearly. Camilo leaves behind, to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of 47 years, Paz Castillo Martinez; his children: Camilo Martinez, Jr., Rodolfo Martinez “Rudy”, Victor Martinez (Valerie Gutierrez), Armando Martinez, Araceli Martinez; his grandchildren: Camilo III, Christian, Chris, TJ, Heavenlee, Victor, Vicky, Rudy, John, Jakob, Abby, Ashley, Alexandra, Michelle, Armando, Isabel, Maddlen, Aleah, Ariella; numerous other members of the family and friends.
