Dolores’ Obituary Dolores Moreno Basaldua, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and now, our guardian angel, left this earth peacefully on December 26, 2018 at the age of 71. She was born in Corpus Christi, Texas to her loving parents Reynaldo and Eva Moreno on February 02, 1947. Dolores was apart of the proud alumni of Roy Miller High School, Class of 1965.

Immediately after graduation she pursued the fine art of history at the Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas; where she would study for 2 years. It was in December 1967 when she would marry the love of her life, Armando Basaldua, when he returned home from the U.S. Navy. From there, this newlywed couple would move to Houston, Texas to begin a life; where they resided for the next 10 years.

With a united front, they would move back to their hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. Upon her return, Dolores elected to attend Del Mar College, where she earned an Associates Degree in Restaurant Management. The majority of her working years were spent assisting her parents in the management of their restaurants, Ray’s #1 and Ray’s #2.

Many Corpus Christi natives still speak of the great food which they could only enjoy there. Dolores had many talents, among them was her knack for cross stitching. Her intricate pieces of art fill the homes of many; those who were lucky enough to be gifted these beautiful treasures.

Her craftyness was not limited to material as her baking skills were beyond measure. Many of her days were filled with decorating Christmas cookies with her daughter Lizette, or making her son Jerrold’s favorite; vanilla wafer cake. Her love of finer things lead to her renowned doll collection; not limiting herself to porcelain or plastic but simply anything which she found beautiful.

Dolores dedicated her life to her family and her faith. She had a profound influence on those whose lives she graced with her presence. She taught her children to have a strong faith in God, to be devoted to family, to be loyal, respectful to others, independent and caring.

The legacy of Dolores’ kind spirit, love of reading, and zest for life will live on through her family. She will be greatly missed. Dolores is preceded in death by her parents Reynaldo and Eva Moreno.

She leaves behind, to cherish her memories, her devoted husband of over 50 years Armando Canales Basaldua; daughter Lizette (Roger) Canales; son Jerrold (Lisa) Basaldua; grandchildren: Aiden Myles Canales, Ethen Andres Canales, Eva Maria Canales, Madison Christine Surita, Samantha Renee Basaldua; sisters: Elizabeth Fuentes and Diana Hinojosa; brother Reynaldo Moreno, Jr.; numerous other loving members of the family and friends. Public Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, December 28 at Guardian Funeral Home Chapel B with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. that evening.
