Carl W. Mann, Sr, age 96, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville. Carl was born October 24, 1922 in Mt. Vernon, IN to the late Karl J. and Arvilla (Thompson) Mann.

Carl was a veteran of the United States Army, serving under General George Patton during World War II. He was involved in all five of the major battles of the European Theatre and in the second wave to hit Omaha Beach at Normandy. He worked to free prisoners from two concentration camps and earned 7 Bronze Stars and 3 Purple Hearts during his service to his country.

For many years, Carl spoke at local schools on Veteran’s Day, and he was blessed to have taken the Honor Flight in October of 2015. He was a member of VFW Post #1114. Carl was also an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, now Annunciation Parish.

Surviving Carl are three daughters, Susanne (David) Walters of North Port, FL, Michelle (David) Tenbarge of Evansville and Melanie (Brad) Holmes of Fort Branch, IN; three sons, Carl W. (Merlene) Mann, II of Newburgh, Kimberly (Diane) Mann of Worcester, MA and Miles (Andrea) Mann of Evansville; twelve grandchildren and several great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Dolores (Therrien) Mann; by a son, Rev. Gordon Mann on February 28, 2019; two sisters, Mildred Williams and Helen Roy and by a brother, Robert Mann.

There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Corpus Christi Church, Rev. Claude Burns officiating. Burial will take place in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.

Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted by the church at 7:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:30 AM until service time on Wednesday at Corpus Christi Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Mater Dei High School for tuition assistance, 1300 Harmony Way, Evansville, IN 47720.
