Obituary of Carmella Ruggiero Carmella Ruggiero, age 92, a longtime Gloversville resident, passed away peacefully and gracefully with support and love from her family, at the Wesley Community in Saratoga Springs on Monday, January 14, 2019. Carmella was born February 28, 1926, in Gloversville, the daughter of Antonio and Elvira (Lauria) Tramontano. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School.

She was an active member of her community and liked volunteering for local organizations, including Nathan Littauer Hospital. She worked in the glove industry and, in her younger years, lived with family in Texas. In 1955, Carm married Frank J. Ruggiero in Gloversville and later had two children.

Carm and Frank enjoyed traveling together and lived in California for a short while. One of her favorite places to travel was Vermont, to be with her grandchildren. She was immensely proud of them and took great pleasure being involved in their lives.

Vermont was also where the family held many reunions. Carm loved cross-country skiing, crocheting, reading, watching Jeopardy and long walks with her sister Anne. She also loved plants and flowers and had an amazing green thumb.

Within the family, Carmella was famous for her excellent cooking, especially Italian foods. Her recipes will be handed down for generations. Carm’s home was a welcome gathering place where exceptional food and a warm smile awaited family and friends on all occasions.

She will always be remembered for her kindness, graciousness, and generosity. Carmella’s great love was being surrounded by her family, and she will forever be in our hearts. She is survived by her two children, Joanne Priestley of Stowe, VT, and Joseph Ruggiero of Camarillo, CA; her sister-in-law, Marguerite Goodemote of Johnstown; grandchildren Adele and Dylan Priestley; as well as many close nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by Frank, her husband of 62 years, and her four siblings: Anne Baringer, Frances Savarese, John Tramontano, and Richard Tramontano. There will be a private service in the spring honoring Carmella’s life. Arrangements have been entrusted to Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville.
