Mary E. “Betsy” Ricker November 13, 1938 – January 15, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Mrs. Mary E. “Betsy” Ricker, 80, of Schenectady, New York passed away suddenly Tuesday, January 15, 2019 with her loving family at her side. She was born November 13, 1938 in Amsterdam, New York a daughter of the late Leo P. and Lillian M. Bowen Ford. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Institute – Class of 1956.

Mrs. Ricker was first employed as a carpet designer for Mohasco prior to her marriage. For many years she was a Religious Education Co-Ordinator at St. Margaret of Cortona Church in Rotterdam Junction, New York and later as a Meal Site Co-Ordinator for the Town of Rotterdam, New York. Betsy was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Scotia, New York and a former devoted member of St. Margaret of Cortona Parish.

Betsy entered the Secular Franciscan Order in 2000. She was dedicated to living her life faithfully in the manner exemplified by St. Francis. Betsy found beauty in her family, nature and service to others.

On September 10, 1966 she was united in marriage to Arthur W. Ricker, Jr He died May 8, 2010. She was also predeceased by her brothers John (Jeannie) Ford and Kevin (Mary) Ford.

She is survived by her devoted children Kimberly Ricker Scannell(Brendan) Scannell, Dr. Kerry Ricker (James Poirer) and Renee Hotaling ( Mark Hotaling); cherished grandchildren Alexandra Grace Van Luyk, Andrew and Meghan Poirer; loving sister Elaine (Jim) Clary; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to Betsy’s Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Church, Scotia, New York. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, New York.
