Obituary for Denis Keane Denis Keane, 82, of Bayard Street, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Saturday morning December 29, 2018 at Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown, NY. Born in Jamaica Queens, New York on July 27, 1936, he was the son of the late John C. and Eileen Madigan Keane. Denis received his education in the New York City school system He was an honorably discharged United States Air Force veteran, and served from 1956 to 1960.

After his tour of duty Denis relocated to the Capital District and joined the Diesel Vessel Operations Union working on various tug boats as a deck hand and oiler, traveling the East Coast and the Northern Canals. Denis retired in 1999 from the New York State Department of Correctional Services where he was a clerk for the Family Reunion Program in the Office of Ministerial and Family Services. Denis, after retirement also worked as a Peace Officer for NYRA at the Saratoga Racetrack from 2006 to 2010.

In his spare time Denis enjoyed target shooting and took great pride in having completed the Amsterdam Police Departments Citizens Police Academy in 2001. He was a former communicant of St. Mary’s Church, and the Irish American Club in Amsterdam, the Perth Volunteer Fire Department, the Friends of Sanford Stud Farm and the National Rifle Association. Denis is survived by his wife, Kathleen Rule Chambers Keane, who he married March 29, 1980, three stepdaughters, Kelly Zubel and Maureen Tomlinson both of Amsterdam and Coleen Hallenbeck (John) of McDonough, GA; and four step grandchildren, Anthony and Noel Chambers, Zachary Tyler and David Henderson and six step great-grandchildren.

Cremation took place at Park View Crematory in Schenectady, NY. A memorial service will be held Saturday January 5, 2018 at 12 noon at the Riley Mortuary, with Rev. Jeffrey L’Arche, M.S. officiating.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 10:00 to 12 noon prior to the service.
