He was born in Troy, NY on June 30, 1951 to Francis Going, an attorney and Laura Brunelli Going, a teacher, but relocated to Amsterdam, NY in his childhood. A graduate of Bishop Scully High School, the State University of New York at Albany and Albany Law School, Going served as Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney, Chairman of the City of Amsterdam Charter Revision Committee, Amsterdam City Court Judge, Montgomery County Family Court Judge and Amsterdam Corporation Counsel.
