Obituary for Carol Gillette Smith It is with unimaginable sorrow and sadness that our precious Carol passed away on Friday June 1, 2018 as a result of complications from cancer. Carol was born in Willoughby, Ohio on September 29, 1952. Carol graduated from Harding High School in Fairport Harbor, Ohio then graduated from Wittenberg University in 1974 and was a member of the Chi Omega sorority.

Carol lived a life full of energy, enthusiasm, poise and grace even through diagnosis and treatment. Her smile was contagious and she made lasting friends whenever and wherever she went. She will be forever remembered as a well-respected commercial real estate lender who genuinely cared for her clients and co-workers.

While she only got to enjoy retirement for two and half years, she made the most of it through travel, dining with friends, being the best Mommy to cats, McDuff and Arnold and being with her husband, Stephen. Carol and Stephen met 44 years ago and have been married for the best 43 years of her husband’s life. She will be deeply missed but her memory lives on vividly.

Carol and Stephen spent many happy years in Dublin, Ohio, split time between Ohio and Florida and eventually moved to Bonita Springs, Florida full-time in 2015 where she was active serving on the finance and social committees as well as being very active socially in the wonderful Vasari Country Club community. Carol brought joy to Stephen’s heart every single day and he was blessed to have found her, it was truly love at first sight and everlasting. Carol was predeceased by her wonderful mother, Mildred and her father, Nathaniel.

She is survived by her twin brother, Thomas and his wife, Ann, niece, Dorie, and her husband, Brian and sons, Tristan and Wynn; brother, Jim and Diane Farinacci; brother, Robert and his wife, Nancy, niece, Elizabeth and husband, David and nephews, Arthur and Peter. Carol was also predeceased by several aunts and uncles who likewise loved her. On Stephen’s side of the family, she was predeceased by her mother-in-law Edna, father-in-law Marion I and numerous close relatives.

Carol is survived by brothers-in-law, Bill and Irv and nephew, Tim and Beth and their children, Kaitlyn and Kristen. Carol is further survived by a host of fun loving and supportive Vasari friends, all of whom share in the grief of her sudden passing. Carol was a special lady in the truest sense of the word and all who knew her adored her style, sense of humor and positive attitude.

She touched so many lives in meaningful ways; her presence will be missed. There will be no formal funeral service; instead there will be a memorial service at a later date. Due to the vicious nature of cancer, you are encouraged to donate to the American Cancer Society in Carol’s name.

She bravely fought this devastating disease with courage and conviction. Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home in Bonita Springs, FL is in charge of arrangements. To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Carol Gillette Smith please visit our Sympathy Store.
