Carol Marie Herb, 88, of North Palm Beach, FL, passed away on August 30, 2018 in the Hospice Unit of Palm Beach Gardens Hospital. Carol was born on May 4, 1930 in Conneaut and was the daughter of the late William M. and Cecile Thompson Herb. She graduated from Conneaut High School in 1948 and received her Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Ohio University in 1952 and her Master’s degree in 1957.

She studied further at the New York University and the New School for Social Research in New York City. After graduation from Ohio University she taught English and Journalism in Dayton and Urichsville, Ohio. She moved to Cleveland and worked in the Public Relations Department at Western Reserve University.

Carol then moved to New York City and was editor and managing editor of the women’s journal – The Methodist Women. She later became the editor of the Response Magazine of the Methodist Women of the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries. She held this position for 32 years retiring in 1994.

During her career she visited over 50 countries in five continents. After retiring Carol moved to North Palm Beach, FL to be closer to family and enjoy the beautiful water and weather. In North Palm Beach she volunteered to teach English to adults who were applying for their US citizenship.

She also belonged to a local book club that met weekly Carol loved to sing – she sang in the choir at the Episcopal Church in Cleveland, the Riverside Church in NYC, and the Oceanview United Methodist Church in Juno Beach, FL. She was well known for singing and dancing to the tune of “Hello Dolly” at many family functions. Carol is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Robert W. Herb, her sister, Joyce A. Dawso, her nephews; Charles D. Herb, Ronald “Mike” Herb and William R. Herb.

She is also predeceased by her great nephew Joseph M. Herb. She is survived by her best friend of 67 years, Beverly J. Chain, her niece, Judith K. Kent and her nephew Irus R. Herb (Bonnie). Carol is also survived by great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews as well as many cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the Marcy Funeral Home, 208 Liberty St., Conneaut. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will follow in the family plot in Springboro Cemetery, Springboro, Pa.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers to consider donations to the Franklin Salvation Army, 237 Elk St., Franklin, PA 16323, in memory of Carol and her sister, Joyce A. Dawso who was a Captain in the Salvation Army.
