Obituary for Carrie Ionia Wilson Carrie Ionia Martin Wilson, 94, gained her angel wings Sunday, January 13, 2019. She was born to Douglas and Susie Martin in Yorktown, VA on October 29, 1924. She graduated from Matthew Whalley High School in Williamsburg, VA and worked as a telephone operator for Southern Bell and Retired from The Western Carolina Sanitorium.

Mrs. Wilson was a 70-year member of First Baptist Church, Black Mountain. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Clarence Jerome Wilson (Willy); sister, Alice Martin Moore; brothers, Purdum and Eugene Martin; and grandson, Jonathan Wilson Leopard. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Wilson Leopard (Woodrow) of Lenior; son, Dale Jerome “Jerry” (Maryella) of Swannanoa; granddaughters, Lauren Elizabeth Leopard and Julie Leopard Jarecki (John); great grandchildren, Olin Wayne Ballentine III, Gavin Wilson McGraw; Ashley Marie Jarecki, Lauren Elizabeth Jarecki, and Jacqueline Lindsey Jarecki; sister, Jeanette Jones (Jack) and brother, Ray Martin.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 10:00am in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with Dr. David Rayburn officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Black Mountain, Building Fund or Hospice of the Carolina Foothills. The family would like to thank her Sunday School Class, Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, Mountain Ridge Wellness Center, and Dr. Thomas Rennard for their care during her illness.
