Obituary for Cathy Gies Cathy L. Gies, age 65, of Clinton Township passed away May 4, 2018. Cathy was born in Detroit, MI and was married to her beloved husband, Gene, for 44 years (married November 22, 1973). In her spare time, Cathy loved to shop and travel.

Spending time relaxing on the beach was where she most loved to be – sipping a Pina Colada at the same time was even better. She went on numerous trips to Hawaii, earning her the title “Maui Lady” that adorned her license plate. Indeed, Hawaii was such a special place for her and her husband that they renewed their wedding vows on the beach there in the presence of their daughters in 2005.

Other favorite destinations included Florida, as well as Caribbean and Alaskan cruises. She and Gene were also known to enjoy cruising around on his Harley, in years past. Cathy was passionate about gardening and decorating.

She had an eye for color, shapes, and texture; blessed with a true talent for making spaces look warm and inviting. Cathy loved lobster and crab legs, with “All you can eat” crab leg nights at Harbor House, meals at Detroit Seafood Market, and Mama’s Fish House on Maui at the top of her list. Cathy especially adored her grandchildren and loved spoiling them.

Most of all, her family and friends will remember Cathy as an incredibly warm and generous person with a playful spirit – someone who treasured spending time with family. Cathy is survived by her husband, Gene; her children: Kelly (James) Slebodnik, Jessica (Murray Eaton) Leese, and Amanda (David) Stover; her grandchildren: Coyce, Reilly, Madison, Grace, Gabriel, Sela, Sadie, and Sloane; her brother, William Brady; her sister, Cindy (Gregory) Vorholt; her brother-in-law, Dale Gies; her nieces: Monica, Shelly, and Emily; and her nephews: Sean, Daniel, and Gregory. Visitation will take place Monday, May 7, 2 – 8 pm at Wm.

Sullivan and Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd. , Utica (3 blks E. of Van Dyke). Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 8, 11 am at the funeral home.
