Obituary for Charles Alfred Shakespeare Long time Independence resident Charles Alfred Shakespeare passed away November 16, 2018, at the age of 92. A Memorial Service is planned for Sunday, December 2, 6:30 p.m., at East Alton Community of Christ congregation, 16999 East 23rd St S, Independence, MO 64057. Charles was born September 1, 1926 on a small farm west of Lamoni, Iowa to Harry and Leta (Stemm) Shakespeare.

He was proceeded in death by wife Alice (Snow) and infant son Robert, his parents, two brothers Eldon and Wayne, and sister Carolyn (VanNoy). Charles graduated from Chrisman High School and married his high school sweetheart Alice in 1946. They had two daughters Debbie Smith (husband Larry) and Marla Blevins (husband Dale) and son Robert.

Charles served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii. He was then employed at American Oil Company until he retired in 1982. He was an Elder in the Community of Christ church and spent over 20 years volunteering as a chaplain at the Groves.

He willingly helped anyone in need, he was an excellent carpenter, built his own house, and he loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, eight grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
