Obituary for Ronald Lee Cox Ronald Lee Cox, 74, passed away on October 31, 2018. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO 64055. A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Monday, November 5th at the chapel.

Ron was born in Alhambra, CA on October 30, 1944 to Virginia Lee (Hentzen) and Thomas Edward Cox. The family moved to Independence, MO in May 1956. He graduated in 1963 from Raytown High School.

Ron was inducted into the U.S. Army July 7, 1965. Specialist Cox served with the 66th Heavy Equipment Maintenance Co, 5th Army until June 20th, 1967. Ron married the love of his life, Kathy Sue McKinzie, on September 18th, 1971 in Chilhowee, MO.

He was a man of strong faith and was an example to those he met. Ron worked for Montgomery Ward for 35 years and retired from Costco in 2018. Ron was involved with Boy Scout pack 604, which he helped charter, and Troop 763.

He was an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed spending time near the ocean. He was a self-taught guitarist and loved riding his Harley Davidson. The biggest joy of his life were his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Jordan Aaron Cox and his parents. Ron is survived by his wife, Kathy and children: Brendon (Julie) Jacob (Megan); grandchildren: Patrick, Jameson, Irelynn and Delaney; brother: Richard Cox (Patty), Houston, TX; as well as a countless number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Compassionate Friends – Independence in memory of his son Jordan, Autism Works – Liberty and BeyondCeliac.org.
