Obituary for Charles F. Ossenberg Dr. Charles F. Ossenberg, 95, of Evansville, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 at his home. Charles was born November 16, 1923 in Evansville to the late William and Kathryn (Weber) Ossenberg. He attended Columbia Grade School and graduated from Central High School in 1941 where he was a cheerleader and band member.

He attended Indiana University for 2 years where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He then enlisted into the U.S. Navy during WWII serving in the Pacific as a weather man for 23 months. After the service, he attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine where he graduated with honors in 1951.

He entered private practice in September 1951 and retired in 1995 after receiving his 50 year membership award. He was a member of the Indiana Podiatry Association and American Podiatry Association. After retirement, Charles and Lita enjoyed spending their winters in Tucson, Arizona.

Charles was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, American Legion, Kennel Club, Elk’s Club, and Lessing Masonic Lodge #464. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash. He and his brother Bill, who was killed in WWII, tap danced professionally and performed nationwide and appeared on the Major Bowes Radio Show in New York City.

Charles was an avid sports fan, playing tennis, until he was 86, he also bowled and played softball. He attended UE basketball games, IU football games and enjoyed all sports. He is survived by his wife, Lita Ossenberg of 63 years; daughters, Dr. Cathy Freeman of Vincennes and Carole Stefanich and her husband David of Indianapolis, Indiana; Son, Bill Karges; grandchildren, Amber Toelle, Katie and Grant Freeman; great grandchildren, Avery and Emrey; sister-in-law, Glenda Ossenberg; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Tom Ossenberg and his wife, Lois, Bob Ossenberg, Bill Ossenberg and sister, Bettye Ossenberg. Visitation will be from 2-8pm Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave. Evansville, IN 47714.

Funeral Service will begin at 10:30am Friday, January 11, 2019 at the funeral home with Reverend Holly Rankin Zaher Officiating. Entombment will be at Oak Hill Mausoleum where the Retired Veterans Memorial Club will conduct graveside services. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 301 SE 1st St. Evansville, IN 47713 or Vincennes Catholic School’s Yellow Bus Fund, 210 Barnett St. Vincennes, IN 47591.
