Obituary for Kathy L Schmitt Kathy L. (Hoefling) Schmitt, 63, of rural Evansville, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019 at the Deaconess Hospital Midtown Campus after a courageous three year battle with cancer. Kathy was born May 22, 1955 in Evansville to the late Earl and Mildred “Millie” (Steinkuhl) Hoefling. Kathy worked as a self-employed house cleaner.
She was a member of St. Wendel Catholic Church, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John at St. Wendel and an avid IU basketball fan. Kathy enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, working on crafts, decorating and spending time outdoors. Surviving Kathy are her husband of 42 years, Gary Schmitt; daughters, Stacey (Dan) Lintzenich and Kendra (Derek) Marvel, both of Wadesville; a son, Jonathan (Mary) Schmitt of Evansville; sisters, Dianne (Gary) Wunderlich of Evansville and Karen (Wayne) Breunig of Memphis, TN; a brother, Larry Hoefling of Evansville and grandchildren, Devin, Connor and Garett Lintzenich, Waylon Diefenbach, Gage Marvel and Dax and Dean Schmitt.
In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenny “Hoss” Hoefling and Mark Hoefling and by infant grandchildren. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 7, 2019 at St. Wendel Catholic Church, Rev. Ed Schnur officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. Wendel Church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 until 7:00 PM on Sunday at Pierre Funeral Home, 2601 W. Franklin Street, where there will be a memorial service conducted at 4:00 PM. Friends may also visit with the family from 9:00 AM until service time on Monday at St. Wendel Catholic Church.
